Full Spectrum Vs. Isolate

With the massive amounts of cannabis products on the market, sometimes it is a bit overwhelming.  After some key endorsements, everyone seems to have at least a little bit of interest in how CBD could help you. Two of the most commonly confused products are Full Spectrum CBD and CBD Isolate.

Cannabis flowers are made up of tons of chemical compounds like cannabinoids and terpenes. ‘Full Spectrum’ is a term implying that their extraction process preserves as many of these compounds as possible. Many patients prefer ‘whole plant medicine’ and full spectrum CBD oil is a product crafted for these types of patients. Full spectrum does imply that there will be some THC present, but generally the psychoactive effects are minimal. While shopping for full spectrum oil, always ask where the start product was cultivated to ensure it comes from a reliable, transparent source.

CBD Isolate, on the other hand, utilizes an extraction process that isolates just CBD from the start materials. These products are cooled down after being processed into an oil so that they resemble crystals. The crystals are then smashed to form a powder, there will be no other molecular compound in CBD isolate. This is a valuable product to dab or vape when we’re feeling anxious due to too much THC, but some studies out of Israel suggest that full spectrum products could be more valuable to medical cannabis patients.

The Lautenberg Center for General and Tumor Immunology along with the Department of Medicinal and Natural Products, both in Israel, did look into the difference of these products as experienced by patients treating inflammatory conditions. The study Overcoming the Bell-Shaped Dose-Response of Cannabidiol by Using Cannabis Extract Enriched in Cannabidiol and found that the body ends up building up a tolerance to CBD isolate. But on the other hand, their research concluded that full spectrum CBD (referred to in the study as enriched) continues working as effectively over time without a change to dosage.

Using a full spectrum CBD extract is referred to as the “Entourage Effect” by scientist. It states that CBD works more effectively with the presence of the many other cannabinoids found in cannabis.

Full spectrum CBD oil will serve medical patients better by providing regular doses of whole plant medicine that don’t lose efficacy. In conclusion, both products are important, but they have different uses.
