The mice who had their GPR55 receptors knocked out, became fatter and had better protection against bone loss that relates to age. Currently, the approved medications that treat and prevent osteoporosis are bisphosphonates. However, these drugs have serious or moderate side effects on the patients. Among the side effects of bisphosphonates include abnormal heart rate, nausea, esophageal inflammation, and jaw bone damage. Although some patients tolerate the side effects of these medications, they don’t enjoy the therapeutic aid benefits at the end.
