Chronic Pain

CBD Oil for Pain – Cannabidiol for chronic Pain

One of the most common uses of CBD oil is for pain relief. The type of pain you are experiencing determines the best CBD product for your particular pain.

Pain is a symptom present in the lives of so many people, due to its high incidence as a part of the symptomatic manifestations of a large number of illnesses. Chronic pain is frequently characterized as torment enduring over 12 weeks whereas acute pain is an ordinary vibe that cautions us to conceivable injury. Chronic pain is very different; it persists often for months or even longer.

There are drugs for pain management in the pharmaceutical world, but, besides the fact that the human body can get used to certain doses of pain medication, needing more to enjoy the desired relief, these drugs also come with a wide array of unpleasant side-effects and health risks.

So, when it was found out that CBD oil can help alleviate pain efficiently and in a safe manner than regular painkillers, the number of people that started adopting CBD oil for pain in their treatment started to be increasingly larger.

Treatments for Pain

In 2010, the cost of health care due to pain ranged from $560 billion to $635 billion which includes the cost of pharmaceuticals, disability, and lost wages associated with pain.

Pain is a primary symptom of many different conditions; it is the most debilitating symptom and one of the hardest to address because of the complications that come along with getting pain medication, and then, of course, taking said medication. Taking pills several times a day isn’t something that many people want to do, and another problem that many patients face is that some of them never see full relief of symptoms because their conditions are complicated and because the body builds up a tolerance to opiates over time.

Chronic Pain

Addiction is another glaring issue when it comes to taking pain medication, as most of these are narcotic and can create dependency and addiction. There is also the issue of the collective disparaging attitude towards those reliant on those types of medications. Sadly, pain is incredibly misunderstood, and this leaves people with a decidedly negative perspective, and that can extend to doctors as well. Dr. Courtney, a California based physician, said it best: “Doctors are fearful of working with [chronic pain sufferers] because it’s hard to control and the doses keep going up,” he said. “They’re fearful that the DEA will think that they’re handing out pain pills. It’s hard to separate out chronic pain from chronic drug seeking. They are both desperate situations. You have no hands-on way to resolve opiate addiction from chronic pain so everyone kind of throws their hands up and refers them to somebody else.”

A combination of CBD oil cream and either CBD Oil tincture or CBD Oil Vape (depending on preference) is often used to treat chronic back pain. CBD oil for chronic back pain helps address the symptoms and provides pain relief, although we recommend you aim to get at the root cause which is often posture and strength related. Strengthening up your back and seeing a chiropractor is the best bet for a long term solution.

CBD Oil for Pain Relief

CBD oil is a proven treatment for pain that is not addictive, is not psychotropic in nature, and has little (if any) side effects. Preliminary research has shown that CBD oil is effective enough in treating pain that it increases the patient’s quality of life significantly. Cannabidiol is completely legal in the United States and can be purchased affordably through a variety of different avenues, such as local health stores or online. Many other countries are also revising the laws constantly and working on more effective ways to expose CBD to the public.

CBD is anti-inflammatory and analgesic in nature. Neuropathic pain is one of the most common types of pain, and CBD is extremely useful as a treatment option because of the way that it works. CBD oil strengthens neuropathic activity and boosts the immune system, increasing its functionality, and effectively decreasing pain.

Many athletes use CBD oil to reduce pain from injury. For example, CBD oil is popular among Brazillian Jiu Jitsu for treating sore joints.

Methods of Using CBD Oil to Treat Pain

There are a few ways that CBD oil can be administered in the treatment of pain. One common way is through a patch. CBD oil is available as a patch, which you would just apply to the body where the pain was, or somewhere that your skin is relatively thin which would allow for absorption of the CBD. There are patches on the market that have different concentrations of CBD so that you can get the correct dosage for your specific health issues, and some even boast that none of the adhesives will be absorbed into the body, nor will it irritate the skin.

You can also apply CBD oil topically, as a cream or lotion to the affected area. Some CBD creams include capsaicin, peppermint, or even cinnamon, that would change the sensation and help bolster the effects.

The other two ways that you can get your dose of CBD to treat pain are more traditional or popular. One of these is in a tincture, taken by mouth. You would put a few drops under your tongue and allow it to absorb, or even add it to a food or beverage.

You can also use a vaporizer to vape CBD, which allows for the fastest and most accurate dosage. All of these ways allow for the CBD oil to interact with your endocannabinoid system and fight the pain that you’re feeling. You can explore different methods and see which works best for you; however, vaping is going to be the fastest path to relief for you as this allows the CBD to enter directly into the bloodstream.

The cause of chronic pain is not generally clear. It may occur due to the reason that brain chemicals that usually stop pain after you start getting better from illness or injury are not working right. It may also occur without a known cause.

CBD for Pain & the Endocannabinoid system

endocannabinoid_systemWhat makes CBD oil so efficient when it comes to diminishing pain? The secret lies in our body’s own endocannabinoid system.

Believe it or not, our body has special receptors that react to the presence of cannabinoids, also being able to produce its own cannabinoid compounds that have as main purpose pain reduction and wellbeing of our body.

But, as you may have guessed, this system may end up not functioning right, allowing disease and pain to take over our body.

This is when we can intervene from the outside, and introduce in the body cannabinoids taken from the cannabis plant, to help this system function as it should once again.

CBD Oil for Pain: How it works

How this system works and what kind of effects and results the treatment with CBD oil can bring us, are aspects that just started to be researched recently. Triggered by the increasing interest of people suffering from chronic pain in products with CBD content.

So, even if medical research is still at its beginnings and the medical world claim to not have sufficient proof in this particular sector, the results provided by CBD for pain relief in the few clinical and laboratory tests that unrolled so far are rather promising. Most pharmaceutical drugs contain level of synthetically made CBD and that’s the main cause of so many side effects caused by them. The pharmaceutical industry well know the importance of cannabis for medical treatments from the very beginning but the most effective way for many diseases and health conditions are natural CBD products which has no known side effects.

Plus, a lot of people that already started using CBD oil for pain stand as living proof that this particular compound is more than able to offer them a pain-free life. It’s in fact been used for many thousands of years.

Studies on CBD Oil for pain

cbd-oil studiesWe are feeling pain due to certain reactions in our brain, which provides a response to external stimuli. Of course, the pain is the result of these processes after emotional processing, which is an indicator that our body is not feeling well.

Inside the brain, researchers found out that the rostral anterior cingulate cortex or rACC is the one responsible for the management of this emotionally-processed pain.

During clinical and preclinical studies, researchers used this information to see how CBD can affect the process of pain generation, by using the rACC of laboratory rats.

During these studies, CBD was either injected directly into the rACC or in their system, allowing it to find its way toward the brain of the rats.

It is worth mentioning that the rats had mechanical allodynia, which pains that the scientists used various harmless stimuli to trigger a pain sensation, so they could measure the effect on CBD.

The obtained results showed that the pain sensation diminished after the administration of CBD.

Of course, the results differed according to the used doses and administration method, but the final conclusion was that CBD could be used in the future to manage pain, even though the medical world considers that more tests are needed.

CBD oil for neuropathic and chronic inflammatory pain

Other studies on laboratory rats focused on CBD for pain relief treatment that was administered orally, just like so many people choose to take their CBD oil, with the purpose of diminishing neuropathic and chronic inflammatory pain.

It was no surprise when researchers discovered CBD’s significant immunomodulatory and anti-inflammatory properties.

The rats in this study suffered from sciatic nerve chronic constriction, which triggered neuropathic pain, and complete Freund’s adjuvant intraplantar injection, for inflammatory pain. In both cases, the rats received a daily treatment with CBD for pain, which was administered orally.

After one week of treatment and until day 14, the pain was reduced both in the case of mechanical and thermal stimuli. The researchers concluded the study with the observation that Cannabidiol can be successfully used in the management of states of chronic pain.

CBD Oil for Pain: Hard to manage pain

But CBD oil is great not just in the case of managing pain triggered by injuries, surgeries, or chronic conditions, but also in the case of hard to manage pain, such as in the case of cancer patients.

Cancer treatment is, by nature, toxic and hard to handle by an organism. That is already weakened by a difficult illness. Thus, the treatment of pain with a product that is extracted from vegetal matter is more than welcome in these cases.

After 2006, when the US FDA approved clinical trials for the administration of cannabinoid analgesics in the case of cancer patients, the use of this products started to increase due to the fact that the possible adverse events are much more manageable than in the case of traditional pain medication.

CBD Oil for Pain: Side Effects & Studies

Fatigue, dizziness, irritability, these are some of the possible side-effects that are presumed to be caused by CBD consumption, especially if the dose is not adjusted according to a person’s needs and body state, but other than this, risks toward health are not present.

Doctors, researchers, and officials insist on the fact that CBD needs to be thoroughly studied in order to have significant proofs that it does work as pain medication until it will actually be approved as a treatment accessible to everyone.

But, even so, the start is promising so it is a matter of time for researchers to discover what so many people already did since they choose to take CBD oil to keep their pain under control.

CBD Oil for Pain: What is CBD?

CBD is a chemical compound extracted from the cannabis plant, known as cannabinoid, which, contrary to what some people may believe, it does not make you “high”. This is the effect triggered by another chemical found in cannabis, known as THC.

CBD (Cannabidiol) oil is certainly taken the world by storm by reviving the argument of marijuana to be used for medical purposes.

Thus, the potential of CBD as an effective pain management treatment is given precisely by the fact that it does not alter one’s state of mind.

In other words, you can use the oil even during the day. As it will have a nice calming effect on the body, helping it relax, without taking away your ability to focus.

In fact, it is said that small dosages can even increase your alertness, so yes, everything lies in the dose you choose to take.

What makes CBD oil different?

CBD oil is becoming a source of relaxation in your daily lives. However, each person’s needs are different we always encourage you to do your own research.

CBD oil works very mildly to treat the chronic pain. We highly recommend giving CBD a try. It is a wonderful and easy treatment to chronic pain management. And can be a catalyst that gets your body and mind moving in the direction of healing.
